How we suffered,
each
in our own way.
A sadness
so raw
our throats
could not swallow.
Through tears
and clenched teeth,
we endured.
Your bitter rages,
my vengeful betrayals.
Shared transgressions
towards folly.
All now
seems senseless.
As if children
had tried to love
but did not know
the language.
Though time passes
and the sting
of memories
weakens,
the greatest regret
my heart still holds
Is the great cost
we now carry
to learn lessons
too late
to save ourselves.
So I continue to mourn
the happiness
we denied each other.
